Description

Location: Berlin - Charlottenburg; International Congress Centrum ICC and Funkturm Hi again! The train is coming soon, so I have to hurry up... The tower is the most famous old landmark of West - Berlin; it was built somewhere in the 20ies of the last century; its builders looked at the Eiffel Tower in Paris, as we can see. From this tower the first broadcasting news were sent in the air and later the first television news, too. In its early days the tower became an important part of the german Nazi propaganda and was the main instrument of nazi propaganda minister Joseph Goebbels. After World War II the tower was part of the "free voice" of the world as a part of the Berlin broadcasting system "Sender Freies Berlin" and sent his news deep into the communistic Germany. The communists hated this tower.... Beneath the Brandenburg Gate the Funkturm is the most important landmark of Berlin. In my childhood is was always a symbol of freedom. The tower was part of the Festival of Lights for some years but it came to full blossom in this year first. The congress center was built in the 70ies of the twentieth century. It is contaminated with asbest and from time to time they talk about to tear it down. It is part of the light festival for the first time. Hope you enjoy this pic. It was taken at 18th October 2010. Thanks for looking in and for your comments. I am back in the evening live from Duesseldorf, western Germany. The train`s whistle is blowing....bye!!

I haven't been to Berlin since 1977, this really brings home how much I miss it. I used to ride by the Funkturm daily on my way to work. Love the city, Love the people. Thanks for sharing.
