Location: Berlin - Charlottenburg, Theater des Westens Hi again! This here is one of the most famous theatres of Berlin, the "Theater of the West". It was built 111 years ago, in 1895/96 as an opera house. They played operas, operettes, musicals and revues - till today. Opened as an opera house, they changed the program some years later into more popular musicals. In World War II the house was damaged and lost its roof. The most opera houses of Berlin (we have 3) were lost completely, so they played again operas here after WW II after some cheap and repairs. In 1965 the West Berlinians got their own brand new opera house (the others were in East-Berlin), and this building here became a musical theatre with 3-4 musicals per year. This was the best time for this house. After 1996, when it was 100 years old, they had a decline, and the city of Berlin, poor as ever, sold the house to private investors. They play popular musicals till today, but the artistic performance is low in the moment, only money counts.... The "Theater des Westens" is part of the Light Festival for the first time, hope you enjoy it. Taken at 15th October 2010 with tripod.
