Description

Port Townshend Bay was originally named by Captain George Vancouver for his friend the Marquis of Townshend in 1792. It was immediately recognized as a good, safe harbor and is now home to Naval Magazine Indian Island, the U.S. Navy's primary munitions handling dock on the Pacific coast.
