Description

Those of you who've followed me (Thank you one and all!) over the years might remember my "Creative Christmas Craft" approach to wrapping presents. For the benefit of those who don't know or don't remember, several years ago I'd gotten a big ink-jet printer and a good supply of ink for it when I was doing freelance design work. However, that Christmas I didn't exactly have much money for presents, so I made my own wrapping paper designs, printed them on 13" x 19" paper, and then taped them together for the larger presents (Which I didn't need to worry about until a few years later when I could afford it, though) The paper was such a hit with my family that I've been making new designs every year since then. I think they look forward to that more than the presents, to be honest. They also very carefully cut the tape so that they can save the paper, and now it's pretty typical to see them re-using some of my previous paper for other presents. I have to say that's probably the highest compliment I've ever gotten on my designs, at that. At any rate, this is the first idea I've tossed together for possible use. I like the colors, and somehow the plaid-type look goes pretty well, but I'll be trying other ideas over the next few weeks before I settle on one thing. Thanks for taking a look, and comments/suggestions are especially welcome on this, as I'm still working on designs and could always use a little help on them, what would YOU like to see wrapped around your Xmas presents?

I always used calendar pages ... also a big hit! They're just the right size for wrapping CDs, DVDs, VCR tapes (back in the day), books ... you get the idea. I LOVE your idea of designing and printing your own! Very cool. This one is great. I love the soft look ... it's like flannel!

OK, Mike, we must be on the same cosmic plane today.... I was just thinking about using my HP wide format inkjet for the same thing - making wrapping paper! I don't know if it's any cheaper givin the price of ink cartridges, but it's certainly a lot more personal. I've had family members do the same thing - save the paper! LOL! I really like this design - that would make a killer mat for clothing as well! What would I like to see my gifts wrapped in? Hmmm.... little pictures of Ben Franklin, maybe! LOL!

It's nice that your family appreciates your efforts. I enjoy seeing what you come up with each year, too.

Fabulous flannel paper - but how do you manage to wrap your standing stones...? :o) Excellent!

A gift is always more personal when it is chosen carefully and then wrapped in something appropriate. Mass produced wrapping paper is about as metaphorically-appealing as a ziploc bag: personalized wrapping as you show here, is as much a gift as the thing it wraps, and that's what I really like about the whole concept of what you've done...what you do. It's very...aware, and it lives up to the most complex of Buddhist values. I love that kinda stuff. And on top of all of that, it's pretty frakkin' awesome that you do this. I love the design and there's a part of me that thinks this would make an excellent desktop pattern as well...or something that could be incorporated into renders of photomanipulations in which computer display screens might exist within focus. That's what makes this exciting for me as well...it's potential for so many different things (whether those things are pursued or not.) This is an excellent piece of work, and a fantastic addition to your gallery.
