Description

To my old Nanao F550i computer monitor - Rest In Peace after 18 1/2 years of loyal service. This is why I've been off line since Saturday, my old monitor died. It sounded like a pistol shot, the image died, jumped back in lowest resolution with a sputter, then another "shot", and it was over with. Dead. 18 1/2 years of daily turning on - turning off and near constant use shows the good quality of my old CRT (cathode ray tube) monitor. I wonder what the record is for such a monitor? And "Welcome" to my new Benq G2200wt flat screen monitor. Now to figure out how to get the correct aspect ratio on the new screen - everything is drawn out horizontally. :)

Haha...great! Maybe the aspect ratio is fine and you're so used to it being squished on your 18 1/2 year old CRT :)

Sorry..... only a monitor, but.......... This monitor is (was) older than all my knowledge about computers, I´ve got my first own computer in 1998. So a little sadness is acceptable..... I looked at your avatar, seeing you and the monitor there as two good comrades...

I have a couple monitors that old that still run, but they haven't been running daily. It does look like you've got a proper widescreen aspect ratio on the new one (a quick search tells me your new Benq has a 1680x1050 native resolution, a 16:10 ratio) - if the gallery thumbnails here look square, you're good to go. It just takes a bit getting used to at first; soon, you'll never want to go back to 4:3.

Ha! I am picturing you with a hand over your eyes and a pistol in your hand finishing off your old friend like the sergeant in the 8th cartoon down this page Like your new flat screen...so much easier to see what's going on...

It's tough to say "so long" to an old friend. I hear "Taps" slowly echoing in the background.
