Description

This one is for Jason. I'm feeling a bit under the weather today, so description on this one is liable to be pretty terse. Feel free to sitemail if you have questions. A pretty simple image. Most of the work went into finding suitable materials for thunderr's "WW II Airplane" P-51 Model and getting it looking good for Vue. I'm not 100% satisfied with it (it is an older model) but it beats the P-51 that comes with Vue five ways to Sunday (Still... Bazze.. if you're listening... P-51!). Most of the materials on the plane are based on Vue's included aluminum material, with the texture map connected into the reflection and specular strength channels to tone them down in the painted areas. Terrain is one of the standard Vue infinite procedural terrains with no modifications. Clouds above are from Dick Scherzinger's "White Magic" set and clouds below are a stratus fog from AisileFX. Both with appropriate tweaking. Image was rendered at 1920x720 overnight with volumetric atmosphere and global radiosity lighting. I tweaked some of the render settings to make the blurred reflections look better. Postwork was limited to adjusting the exposure of the 16-bit tif image in photoshop. As always, thanks for your comments and critique.

Great render and like the explanation of how it came about. I like ThunderRs stuff, but re-texturing their planes IS a nightmare.Still you've done stirling work here and I hope you're feeling better very soon.

I like the textures and effects on the P-51, and nothing does a decent landscape like Vue.

keeping it quick so you don't have to spend time reading instead of resting. i think the lighting is great. i especially like the distant and partially-obscured landscape. the plane looks great even if it was PITA to work with. this actually reminds me of the plane photos of a Rendo artist i follow. excellent work!
