Description

Humans often don't like to throw something away until there was absolutely no salvaging or re-using it in any way. One of the interesting results of this was the gradually increasing array of highly unique and often jumbled-together ships that operated across the lines if transport. One of the more poplar ships of this type is the "Peregrinantes Ventosus", a kludged-together assortment of odds and ends that built up slowly over time as her crew continued to add on and expand they could. The crew of the Peregrinantes were especially famous for their scrounging abilities, often finding ways of refurbishing and re-using what nobody considered salvageable. The ship became something of a legend, even, and tended to draw quite a bit of attention wherever it ventured. This amused her crew, as they always operated on razor-thin margins, their scrounging abilities were earned out of necessity as a way of obtaining inexpensive repairs or components. Their pride was also noteworthy, and they turned down several offers from the big entertainment vendors for their biographies, or use of their ship for entertainment vids. The ship operates even now, an ancient remnant from the earliest days of humanities expansion to the stars, still ramshackle and haphazard as always, still fiercely independent and proud. -From "The Legends of The Space Lanes" by Professor Marcus Llewel ----------------- I have to admit that I rather enjoy putting together these "grimy relics" of space. This was somewhat inspired by the comments of several people that the modular designs could really be mixed-and-matched in a variety of ways, which of course made me want to push that a bit. The ship was modeled and rendered entirely within Bryce 6, textures are a mix of my own and some of the presets. The background planet and nebula were all done in photoshop, as was the compositing and other post working (most especially the "aging" of the hull textures) Of course, comments and critiques are certainly welcome, tell me what you like, but also feel free to tell me what you don't like. I may not always agree, but criticism always helps me improve! Thanks for taking a look and enjoy what's left of the weekend.

The background and planet would be wonderful on their own;the ship is a bonus for sure. The exhaust plumes done in Bryce, too? someday I'd like to see you do a scene with an interstellar armada, with 1,000s of these ships!

Very nice! Yes, mixing and matching is working for you. By now you probably have a whole bunch of components you can assemble.

Ships like this are what make their respective universes...not everyone can be the sleek and hyper-clean USS Enterprise and I like the ramshackle, cobbled-together ships a lot more. Okay, I like the Galactica but by the end of her lifespan, she was unable to even jump suffering catastrophic structural damage. The point is, I love stories like this: ships like this are always integral parts of such stories as their appearance is always a testament to human will and ingenuity, and let's face it...in deep space, a bit of human ingenuity is what keeps you, and your crew-mates from having those oh-so-fun catastrophic decompression events. I love this piece. The ship itself is really well done: old and beat up or not, its a beauty.

The story of this crew and their ships pleases me, because it is similar to that of French privateers, which replenish the coffers of the king, addressing heavily laden galleons, gold, jewelry, freshwater ... A beautiful master Bryce, you can create with talent, endless space ships, all as credible as each other!

I really like this one! Your designs are getting more and more complex, that's a good thing. And your background is wonderful too.

Hi NefariousDrO, I like this ship very much ! Modular design plus "Système-D" scrounging around means ships full of personnality ! I guess the model and pic took a long time to achieve... Nice job ! @+ Mutos
