Description
Today a friend commented that he missed normal and defined normal as somewhere between the ages of 18 and 21 for him. It made me think about what normal is for me. Normal has always changed with the situation for me, and has never been something I wanted. Right now normal is being kept away from friends and family by the military. I don't want normal anymore. There's a certain fear associated with deviating from that normal though. Even as I face a discharge from the Army I'm not quite sure what I'll do afterwards and every so often I shudder at that thought. But inevitably a new normal will arise, and hopefully I can make it into something where I'm making a lot of money, or at least not living in a box on the street, I'm not greedy. So, what is normal? It's whatever you make it and I guess it's up to you to decide whether you want to be normal or not.

By saying you're NOT 'greedy', you MAY be considered ABNORMAL by today's 'standards'? SMILES. I'm reminded of a song line by Alice Cooper in a song called, INMATES, We're ALL Crazy: "WE talk to OUR shrinks - THEY talk to THEIR shrinks - No wonder WE'RE up the wall!". WINK? This DUMB old man operates on the LIFE principle that WE ALL are CRAZY in SOME way or another .... But a FEW just PUBLICLY ADMIT such .... As this OLD GRUMP now DECLARES. GRINS. HANG TOUGH! .... If YOU ever 'question' YOUR NORMALCY, just watch a few 'REALITY' t.v. shows, a few 'soap operas', or C-SPAN! .... WINK? My BEST, KIND SOUL .... TallPockets/brian.

Normal is a small town in Illinois...a rather boring town, despite the fact that it's also a college town...and by simple geographical truth, I am NOT normal, since I am not a geographic location. On the other hand, normal is such a fluctuating concept, even when it's not a town, and I suppose the best we can aspire to is contentment in whatever form it takes. Well written piece! I loved reading it!
