This here is Friedrich Schiller, one of our leading poets (the other is Goethe) Goethe and Schiller, this is Germany`s core, its heart, its soul.... In my time every schoolboy and schoolgirl had to learn some of their poems, nobody out of my generation (and the generation of junge1, my brother, of course) left a german school without any knowledge about one of them or both. Goethe and Schiller were played till today at our theaters and stages. In their best years they were close friends and lived in Weimar, Thuringia, which is situated in the middle of Germany. Many roads, alleys, plazas, schools and universities are named after them. Friedrich Schiller here lived from 1759 till 1805 and died young after only 46 years. This statue here is situated directly in front of the Deutsches Schauspielhaus, a theatre in classicistic style, at the Berlin Gendarmenmarkt. The place is one of the main attractions of the Festival of Lights, and they change the lightings every year to create something new...
