Description

Location: Berlin - Charlottenburg; Zoological Garden Hi, everybody! This here is a symbol of the old West-Berlin, as times were right, the Wall divided us and West-Berlin had enough money to realize projects... This is the main entrance of the Berlin zoological garden. The entrance is flanked by two elephants, the gate was originally built in Siamese style in 1899. The entrance building was destroyed in World War II. The Berlin Zoological garden has many superlatives: It is the zoological garden with most different species worldwide: 15 000 animals from more than 1500 species, and it is the oldest zoo of Germany. It has more than 3 million visitors per year. The elephant`s gate here is a copy; it was rebuilt in 1987 after old photographies, when Berlin celebrated its 750th birthday. It is every year part of the "Festival of Lights" event, an eyecatcher of this festival and in normally times, too. Pic was taken in October 2009 with a tripod. Dear friends, hope you enjoy this pic. This is a magical shot. The colors are amazing, and it looks as if it is actually a gate between two different worlds...Berlin in front of the Elephants and Berlin behind the Elephants! This is magical! I really like it quite a lot and it's making a trip into my favorites.
