Description

I took this photo in my old apartment which had the best light to do anything creative. I now live in a very old house with very old light :) We are still getting used to each other, my old house and me. I made a pact with my old house that I wouldn't change a thing about it's 1912 exterior if it could just allow me a few minutes each day to get really awesome light. So far, the house is winning and I am learning to live with poor lighting :) This photo interests me but I don't know if it is because it is a decent photo or if it is only that I miss the lighting :) Thank you for all your kind comments on my last posting. Hope you are enjoying your week :)

You obvious had a lot of light in your old apartment. Still for photography you'll find the best light mostly outside. Anyway that's my finding. For other forms of creativity, drawing or painting, you will need a lot of daylight. So there is a dilemma. On the other hand, I guess your new 'old' house is by far more attractive.

I like this photo quite a lot...especially because of the light and the way it seems to waft like the incense smoke itself. It's a definite presence and it brings out the colors in this space quite well. The glass of wine is such a fantastic touch; what's a creative space without wine? Or incense? The colors are deliciously warm and sensual: it's like I can see them, hear them, and actually feel them and that's always a good thing. I'm particularly drawn to the clouded light passing through the plastic storage bins; there's a really nice and relaxing quality to that. I once read an article in a magazine, written by one of those Ivory Tower art snobs who believes that art should rest firmly in the domain of ONE particular group of people. He berated the incorporation of "modern" objects into art as he saw no artistic value to snowmobiles, cans of soda, pieces of plastic. Needless to say, the only art he liked seemed to involve naked Greeks carved thousands of years ago. For my part, I'm glad to see today's life reflected and displayed prominently in bona-fide art! This IS bona-fide art, and I love it.

The light is beautiful. I love the colors. Rooms reflect the people who live in them. It's like viewing an intimate self portrait. Thank you for sharing.

I love this room, the light, your things occupying that space. What a lovely place! We're in the process of getting a few new pieces of furniture, moving things around, being almost militant about getting rid of things we don't need/want/use/whatever. This room reminds me that not EVERYthing has to go! LOL! Such warmth is created by a few beautiful things, carefully chosen. Wonderful photograph!

I remember this place! And the light really was wonderful as you can clearly see in this great picture. I like the wine and incense, they make it that much more inviting and relaxed. I agree with Chip about modern objects as art. I've always enjoyed photographing/drawing/writing about modern America as it actually is, and that frequently involves making pictures of it's manufactured objects in whatever state or juxtiposition you may find them in. In addition to this being a beautiful view of the natural world meeting the intimate human one, I love the fact that you included all modern plastic objects in the place of your Muse. Nice work.

I love the odd curtains, the glass of wine and the cigarette smoke rising into a room full of interest. The light is perfect and so is the shot.

a sweet luminous quality to all these things come together for a 'still life'. Whether you put these things out in any fashion, or just caught them 'at random' (or some combination of some kind), you've caught a 'still life' feel of things coming together for a very comfortable combination. I like the light and the way it spills through the air in certain sections (I can see how you like the light here). And the mix of all these objects & lines is so compelling---leading to that open window which has quiet greenery & other windows waiting. A capture of the peace & draw of a beautifully lit room. Very thoughtful work from you, once more.

I love shots like this that have heaps to see in them. At first I thought the smoke was from a cigarette, but then I noticed the incense stick. Your'e right the light is lovely. My creative space would look like a mess to anyone else, and it probably is! Piles of computers and cameras and assorted other krud!
