Description

Stardate 3023.24... As we approached the Beta Reticuli system, a strange ship approached us. None of us had ever seen anything like it, not even our Vulcan science officer. It was not in any of our data banks, and never appeared on any of our long-distance scans. It was of fairly average size, approximatly 200 meters long, and nearly that wide. It glowed in places and ways a spaceship ought not to glow. There were no responses from our greetings on any sub-space channels. We scanned - cautiously - but it was as if our scans simply bent around this strange apparition, and faded into space. Our instrumentation indicated that the strange craft scanned us a couple times. After only a few moments, the craft turned, and silently disappeared into the stars. It apparently did not consider us to be a threat. Fortunately. After consulting at length with our science officer, it is our conclusion that this craft was an autonomous ship, created by entities as yet unknown. Another mystery of deep space. I've been spending a good deal of time lately noodling around on the internet, searching out all kinds of 3D files; obj, 3ds, lwo, all of which can be imported into Poser with varying degrees of success. I've been playing with this odd looking ship most of the afternoon. I can't remember exactly where I found this one, at the moment, but I'll update when I stumble across the info! I used a couple new techniques for the stars and nebulae. I got the idea of using photos of clouds as a base for the nebulae from Mike, AKA NefariousDrO, who has some of the most kick-butt space scenes you'll see on Rendo. Check him out, you'll be glad you did! As always, thanks for all your support, comments, and faves! It really means a lot!

you write really super rod, like that star dated story attached to this great looking space scene my friend, you are so multi talented rod. awesome work, the background looks like a hubble scope view of the action.

Sounds just like the Captain's log. Well written and makes the scene just that more intense

Mighty nice Rod...there is a feeling of multidimensions here for me. What does that mean? A vastness...a sense of depth...and the glow lends mystery to this ship that remains unknown...even to us Vulcans:)

I really like the way you made this ship glow "in places a spaceship ought not to glow"...nicely done! Your storytelling is very good too...you do as well in prose as you do in bubbles on TNA! And I am going to have to learn how to make my own backgrounds...its always a trial for me to find one like I need....and yours is fantastic! ~Great work~

Ohh. you have my hooked with the story! I love scifi stories and this one would have me sitting to the end of the book. Great job with the starfield, I can tell you put a lot of work into it and it shows. :) Delaney

Ah, yes...the Nefarious DrO Method of nebular rendering...I have yet to try anything like that, and as I don't have photoshop, it's a lot harder to do. The Gimp just doesn't do as much as I need it to do...but it's good for what I manage from time to time. I like this scene and the little snippet of a story that goes along with it. Great sense of mystery...and ya know...after looking at this, I think I might be able to Gimp-generate a nebula. I'm gonna go try it out and see what happens, but in the meantime, I'm gonna say that you've done a great job on this one. And I have to say, if Vulcans don't know what something is...well...you're just gonna have to wing it. Most illogical, I know...but what other option is there?

Yeah, the good Doc is definitely the master of space scenes, but this one kicks some serious buttinsky as well!

I really like the colors used in this on. And the starry sky is awesome. Fantastic work on the ship, with the glowing pieces.

Excellent work! The glowing spaceship and starry background fits so well together. This is one of your finest Rod and a Fav. Well, I could think of the other parts version of the meeting, hope you don't mind? Autobot captain: Unknown wessel closing in - any data?... Scanning bot: Visuals say it might be one of the lesser races from the outer borders of our galaxy...We don't know if they are hostile... Captain: Pilot-bot!...Move the our ship to the brink of 5. dimension so they are no treat...they can see us but not do any harm...! Botpilot! Aye, captain....done... Captain; Make a scan...! Scanning bot: Scanning pulses send...data now analyzed, sir!... Pilot Bot: How primitive design...but it's there... Data bot: Sir, we have the data...! Captain: Yes?... Data Bot: There is biological life onboard, some 867 entities....a bipedal upright race...archives checked....here best similarity in data base!...I have it: It seems to "humans" a bipedial race from a place called Sun and living on a planet named ,Earth!...Directive says avoid!...Repeat avoid! They are semi intelligent and are very immature and greedy and a not trusting race...Not yet able to enter the international galactic brotherhood...Orders say: Do not have any contact with them... Captain: Well, they could be dangerous...Bot pilot! Bot pilot! Sir!?... Captain: Move the ship into fifth dimesion and return to the galactic core...We send a warning to all wessels to avoid this zone... Bot pilot: Aye, captain...moving to "fifth".... Maybe this is the reason to avoid us? ;o) Sorry but you ship gave me this idea! Best wishes, Rhanagaz.
