Description
Every weekend from March until December Portland's Old Town/Chinatown neighborhood transforms into an arts and crafts open-air marketplace. You can find it under the Burnside Bridge at Waterfront Park.
Portland Saturday Market was the brainchild of two women, Sheri Teasdale and Andrea Scharf. Both were artists living in the area who had sold at the Saturday Market in Eugene; their idea was to create a similar market in downtown Portland. Operating since 1974 the Portland Saturday Market is the largest continually operating outdoor arts and crafts market in the nation. If you visit you will find every type of handicraft, a variety of food booths and live entertaiment.
Items are still sold by the people who make them, giving the customers the chance to talk directly with the artisan about their craft.

... and who doesn't love an outdoor market ? - I for one do ! there should be more of it, just love rummaging around, always looking for something special and finding 'stuff' - it sure beats a homogenised Shopping Centre ... thanks for sharing Mark, just wish it was a bit closer to home ! LOL BB
