I am an environmental scientist. A large part of my career has been dedicated to scientific research into the structure of ecosystems and factors that affect them. Quite early on, it became apparent that certain mathematical iterative principles formed geometries that coincided exactly with those found in natural ecosystems. And by ecosystems, I do not mean just plants and animals. The same principles also apply to quantum physics, geology, meteorology and on up to the formation of galaxies. These relationships were championed most publicly by the brilliant mathematician Benoît Mandelbrot, the founder of fractal geometry.
To my mind, the structure of natural ecosystems through application of these iterative processes revealed not only the genius and subtlety of nature but also its incomparable beauty. Â

Awesome work Stan! Love the colors in this image, and the depth acheived by use of the shadow on the floor. LOL Your title did have me curious when i first saw it on the ebot announcement. I never really thought of the Julia series being named after a man but it makes perfect sense. I never would have thought of Julia Roberts, while she is very attractive, I don't think she is quite old enough to have been alive let alone famous when the early work on fractal geomotry was being developed. Have a great day Stan, and be happy you are down where its nice and warm as opposed to up here with Glenda and me. Winter has been particularly harsh so far this year, and according to the calendar winter has not even arrived yet until next week.

Beautiful balls! Gorgeous colors and lighting. Yes, I did know Julia's aren't named after a girl. :-) Corrie

Didn't flinch a bit at the title, seemed self explanitory. Benoit Mandelbrot, Gaston julia, Waclaw Sierpinski, The Godfathers of Fractals. Super work Peace

I love your Julia's balls they are so pretty and I didn't know they got their name from Mr. Julia. How about that, I learn something new every day as I should. A shame he didn't get to see the beauty he created.

Gorgeous image of the "Julia Set". Beautiful colors. Very nice dedication to the inventor.

Ok I was going to send slings and arrows... BUT you clarified that situation. No that was not me. that was a woman weaving at the festival.

You're right, Stan. A fantastic and honorable, shining image, you created for the only true, and real Gaston Julia! This must be put right, we should know that we press the buttons (the balls) of Gaston, and not those of Julia Roberts or of our former queen Julia(ana) van Oranje ;-). p.s. Seeing this beauty, it is as Gaston Julia is more alive then before ;D.
