Description

Our first frost of the year back in late October as the rising sun creeps over the horizon to the right, illuminating the peaking autumn colours in the background. The stately home in the distance is Stonor Manor in case you were wondering. This is a favourite local spot of mine to explore in autumn, the colours can be wonderful. Some clouds would have been nice but with frosty/snowy shots I don't think they're strictly necessary. I reckon the cool hues of the blue sky can actually complement the frost quite well... thoughts?

Cool title for a great picture (it is an HDR?)

it is not an HDR in the Photomatix/tonemapped sense of the word... I never use automated HDR algorithms for my landscape/nature work as I find the effect too grungy and unrealistic, and it often introduces unwanted noise and colour casts which can be difficult to remove.... far better in my opinion is to manually blend exposures yourself inside photoshop using layer masks - you have full control over the output, the resulting file is much cleaner (resulting in better prints) and the overall result far more natural :)

First of all ... gorgeous image! Wonderful composition and interest, and the angle of your shot (looking sideways across the hillside) highlights the frost in a most pleasing way. As far as clouds vs blue sky and frost goes: Clouds cause what heat there is in the atmosphere to stay there, and of course frost won't form if it's too warm. It's those clear, cloudless nights when all the heat bleeds off into the atmosphere that creates conditions for beautiful frost like this. I'd be pretty surprised to see heavy frost AND clouds together that early in the year.

I love how the sunlight really lights up this very frosty scene and turns it into a vibrant autumn capture.

Stunning capture my friend.Perfect composition my friend. The cut of tree here placed in the front of the capture gives a feeling of depth. The blue colors in the sky is wonderful. Outstanding work my friend.

That stump seems to say, come and sit awhile. Glad you included it in the foreground. Extremely well composed (as always)!

A wonderful study in contrasts. The cloudless blue sky and the sun just touching the tops of the distant trees verses the frost in the middle distance. And of course there is the beautiful, healthy looking green tree in direct line of sight to the stump. I really must learn how to use layer masks.
