Description
Whichever path one takes through Luxulyan Valley, this is what keeps you company. Granite, in all its glory and beauty, due in no small part to the flora that adorns it.
Of course, much of whether or not 'beauty' is a word to be used here is all dependant on whether or not one likes moss of every description - in bucket fulls - which I do. In fact, whilst others run for moss killer as soon as one spore sets up house on their imaculate, "mown to the exact centimetre all good lawns adhere to", patches of grass, I actively encourage it to thrive! Firstly, it holds more heat than grass does; good for wormy folk, so good for wormy folk eating feathered folk; and secondly - well I just like the feel of it under unshod feet!
The granite cliffs are home to just about every small furry being one can imagine that lives hereabouts, either residing in the deep crevices made possible by the constant bombardment of water that runs off the meadows from above, or in the more earthy places running alongside the leats. The leats then run in and out through the cliff and down into the fast flowing water at the very bottom of the valley which is it's last stopping off place. Twixt that river (where the otters reside), and the actual top of the valley, is a beautiful waterfall, mostly unseen because of the tree cover, though it can be heard at a great distance. It is by no means the only waterfall, but it certainly is the loudest!
I took this a few days ago on my first foray to the valley since the landslide. The middle path was the only one open and icicles adorned the cliffside along most of it's length. It was stunningly beautiful, especially when the sun shone through! Unfortunately, sunshine through icicles doesn't quite work out digitally the way it does first hand! ^=^
Today is lake day. It's close, it affords at least some cover from the cold and all this pales into insignificance when it comes to the Canada geese and Coots (over 80 yesterday!), which need the food I intend depositing!
Thank you for the wonderful comments on my last offering! I was struck dumb - and that in itself is a feat few can master! ^=^
Thank you for taking the time to look

YOU were struck dumb, Carpathia?! Gosh! I hope that never actually happens, either for speech or writing, you are always such a joy to ramble with! Love this shot, and of course like you I love mosses and lichens of all sorts. No sun here, it is snowing again as I type. So a good day for clearing the cupboard so that the decorators can do their stuff tomorrow!

I LOVE moss...AND granite, as New Hampshire is known as the Granite State! There is such beauty in water trickling over granite and encouraging moss to grow. We have quite a few different mosses that grow here and yes, they feel so good on bare feet!! What a great shot you captured!
