Description
A light rain was falling on the day I visited the Portland Japanese Garden. It had the effect of keeping the large crowds away and enhancing the serene feeling of the five-acre garden.
The design of the Portland Japanese Garden is the unique vision of the late Professor Takuma Tono, considered one of the most important landscape architects of his time in Japan. It has been open to the public since 1967.
There are small places like this scattered throughout the garden where one can rest and sit in quiet contemplation.

This is lovely, Mark. What a special spot! It seems so intimate, even though it's in such a well known public place. Gorgeous photography!

I love your three shots of the Japanese Garden. All three images bring quiet contemplation to the mind, but this solitary, corner best suits my present mood. Beautiful colors and light! I love the sheen captured on the gray stone, and the ripples of light in the simple and enchanting fountain. My sister and I have talked of going to Seattle. We had not planned on including Portland (only because there are so many different places vying for our attention. Your beautiful images of the Portland Japanese Garden make me wonder if we should reconsider. Lovely capture! I hope the holiday season is finding you well and happy, with many moments of peaceful and quiet contemplation.
