Description

I was inspired by Harry's image today ... This is Bill at Picnic Point beach, getting a low-angle shot of ... something. I hope I can still do that when I'm 70! (Well ... I can't do exactly THAT now. My heels don't touch the ground when I'm hunkered down like that. I have to balance on the balls of my feet, and if I try to stay down too long, eventually I just fall over!)

You reminded me of an old Firesign Theatre line, 'She's no fun, she fell right over.' Nice candid shot. This is what years of military discipline and selfdeprivation will do for you.

Its not the getting down its getting up after the shots been taken, I have to carry a plastic bin bag to lay on as my camera only has a viewfinder it has been known for people to give me strange looks, the wife just makes signs saying he's Nuts.

I can still do this BUT I usually just hold the camera down there and it takes what it sees. Lucky woman, Tara, to find a fit man..there aren't that many in Britain, even young ones. They tell us that 60% are overwieght, and as far as I can see 60% of the rest take drugs or drink... So glad I actually LIKE living without one! Hehe!

LOL! I can still do that and I am BIG :-))) Its the only way I can take a low shot. I carried alot of heavy stuff at the archive for 10 years in the costum office years back, so I learned to use my knees to carry with instead of the back. But I cant stay down there for long. Then my knees hurt. LOL!

My knees crack too; and while I can get down like that, getting up again doesn't appear to be an option! Great candid shot of the man in action!

I might be able to get down (doubtful) but I know I could never get up again. I love the picture, your narrative, and the comments have kept me laughing. What a fun post.

Awesome dude! I bet he does squats regularly, or some kind of work. If you can't crouch like that, do squats. That'll teach ya how. I love the image! It's a moment of a man and his work, captured and enhanced

Boy, is that artistic concentration, or what? LOL! Dang, it's making my knees hurt just looking at it! You go, Bill! :-D Really cool shot, here, Tara! The artist at work!

Really! I never thought that Bill was still that agile and supple enough to achieve such an agonizing position. The man is just full of surprises. Of course he's using the articulated LCD monitor on his camera to achieve a ground level effect. I'd be able to scrunch down like that but not be able get up without assistance. Anyway, cool capture of your fella, apparently deep in concentration.

And I suppose you're going to tell us you needed a tripod to hold the shot steady... :o) BTW, some people simply cannot squat like that - has to do with the shape of their ankles. BTW BTW nice shot (with or without tripod).

Great capture Tara. What was Bill trying to capture? I don't think I ever did this. I usually just stand and shoot. I am like you now, I couldn't do it if I wanted. You sure inspire Bill, that's for sure. He is doing all sorts of fancy stuff. Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year Tara. BTW, I was offered a seat on that flight to Germany yesterday, but declined. I vividly remember last Christmas. Don't want to go through that again.

This is kind of one of those National Geographic behind the scenes shot, usually of the sort that reveals how our intrepid photographer sneaks up on something like the rare and carnivorous North American Yellow-striped Spitting Woodlouse of Eastern Sri Lanka or something like that. I love the intense focus you've caught and the whole way I'm able to see a photograph of another photographer at work. This is amazing stuff, really. I like it a lot. And now I'm curious. What was Bill photographing? Did it move? Were there crustaceans nearby? Inquiring minds want to know. Great stuff here.
