Description

Here is a picture of the total eclipe of the moon taken just as the Earth shadow covered the moon. This combination of events last happened in 1638 Dec 21, 372 years ago. After this year, we'll not have as long a wait until we have a December full moon occur on the same date as the solstice: Dec. 21, 2094. And, just like this year, that same full moon will fall into Earth's shadow in a total lunar eclipse. But it will not be viewable as a total eclipse in the US. The picture is a 4 second exposure with a Meade 60 MM telescope with a 26 mm super plossl eye piece. Taken In an alley with the scope sitting on a garbage can. Good astro photos can be taken in a city.

Gee Greg, you are doing really well with the help of a telescope, thanks for the additional info - pity we don't live that long to experience that event ;-( It's was always fascinating to follow Mr.Carl Sagan's Universe information on TV. :-) I am wishing you and your family a ~joyous and peaceful Christmas~ and a ~Healthy and Great New Year 2011~ Cheers BB

I was up and on the phone with another Renderosity member trying to view the eclipse together, I couldn't see it too many clouds :( but he described it to me from where he was, and I told him someone will have a picture of it on Renderosity tomorrow for us. I am so glad you were able to enjoy this beautiful sight. Thanks for sharing with us. I love all the stars in the distance. :)

Nice; Took some through the cloud breaks last night myself. Need to download and see if they turned out.

Great shot! Thank you for this post. I wanted very much to see this celestial event but could not due to cloud cover in our area.

wonderful capture! ...pity you didn't indicate the make/model of the garbage can you used! ;) i was fortunate to be able to view this wondrous celestial spectacle through occasional breaks in the cloud cover, but i am grateful for your posting to supply the details invisible to my naked eye...

Taken In an alley with the scope sitting on a garbage can. Ah, the wonderful romance that is photography! Spectacular result! First rate. Southern California was covered in clouds so all we saw was rain.
