Description

The planets of the Solar System in some sort of levitation display along an old eroded brick wall. I've been tinkering with this for several weeks now and still to me it lacks something significant. I know it's not a jump right out there and grab you kind of image. I guess it is more an experiment in modeling and lighting for me. I'm still learning. Done in Bryce 5. Planet and mooon textures by Nasa. Rings of Saturn and Stars by Dan Whiteside of bryceworks.com. I can't recall where I found the overhead lamp. The ball valve on the pipe came with Bryce. I did the photographic textures for the brick wall and the manhole cover.

Actually, this DID jump out and grab me! Love the way you've composed it, and the POV, and the textures you made. Plus, it's a cool idea. The only thing that didn't knock my socks off was the star field. Something's weird about it, but I can't put my finger on it. Too blue? Stars too round? I dunno, it just seems 2D and everything else is so wow. Anyhow, GREAT work - I really like it a lot.

Yes, this is a good pic and top marks for originality. I agree with Mahliqa, though, the starfield is UGH! Lose it and get some softly glowing nebulae in there or something - a JPG on a flat face would look great. Also, a couple of other things I would do - firstly get a bit more lighting on the right-hand planets, maybe a different colour, and also make the shadows softer (if your processor can handle it). Anyway, it's looking really good ATM.

Thanx all of you. It's a real lift to have these good comments. And yep, I do agree with you about the starfield. Dan can make it look good for him. I must not be doing it right. Tuttle, I left the right hand planets darker on purpose. They do lose definition and clarity this way but it also enhances the feeling of depth which is what I was aiming for. I do however agree with your suggestion about the softer shadows. I don't know why I didn't try that. The render didn't take too long, I think my processor would've handled it. And yes, nu-be, I have recently heard about the Universe program and I am going to give it a try. Thanx for the suggestion. A funny thing you should mention the glowing letters above each planet... I had already given that a try and it was a bit distracting, so I ditched that idea before I posted this image.
