Description

This is the final of my redesign for the Shenandoah. The ship is as complete as I can finish it. I cannot add any more items because of the limitations of Bryce, no matter what the version. Until I move to a 64-bit operating system and I can use more RAM, I am stuck with the current configuration. A question was posed to me about the radiator fins near the engine section; I will have to answer the question in two parts. 1: I put the fins on that section because there is where I will need to dissipate the heat the most. Having a conduit to transfer the heat to a different location in IHO is not cost effective. 2: As I said earlier I cannot add any more and still be able to render an image with the ship completely built as you see it now. There for I could not add the correct size radiator fins that I would have liked to have added. If I have, the resources to add more to this file would see the length of the fins increase over two and a half fold as to how you see them at present. I do not explain myself in that great of detail thinking that the viewer would realize what I was purposing from what they have experience from my work in the past. I made an assumption that I should have never made. I do read and I actually do research on what I design but unfortunately, I do not take into consideration everyone that will view my work that they know what I have done. In the future, I will try to better explain my reasoning as to why I design the ships that I create as I do. I am not an engineer nor do I have a degree in such but I must tell you that I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express recently so I hope that this makes it all better. I thank all for their comments about my work and I do apologies for being short to some of you. The only thing that I asked is to enjoy my work and if I spark your imagination to also create a vision of what the future can be, then I believe that I have done my job well. I want humankind to journey past LEO to explore our Solar System and I hope that we see the actual beginnings of this venture in my lifetime. There will always be thing that we need to take care of here on earth but if we do not soon start to develop means to move past earths orbit I truly feel that we are doomed as a species. To not take advantage of what GOD has given us is just as much a crime as to just sit and do nothing at all. There is a fine line that we walk and for me I know that the future is Space and our Solar System. We have all the resources that we could ever need for at least the next 10,000 years in our own galactic back yard. We should develop these resources because by doing this we absolutely guarantee that humankind will survive. This is my story and I am sticking to it. Again, I wish everyone here at Renderosity a Very Merry Christmas and a joyous New Year. All the best from one spaceship designer to all the others here, David

A one way trip is 40 days? What year would be good for this journey when Earth and Mars are that close?

I'm always so amazed at the incredible level of realism, detail, and conceptual accuracy you put into your models. This ship is fantastic, and it sure would be wonderful if we actually built it and sent it out! Great stuff, as always!

Amazing... your modeling would be impressive in a high end program, but to achieve this in Bryce is astounding!

Excellent work! I really like the modular nature of the ship and the attention to detail is fabulous. I really like the ladders and handhold. And yeah, the radiators ought to work. There's few of us who even consider them, and I tend to make mine unrealistically small as well. PS, I have a 64-bit machine with 12GB RAM, but Bryce runs out at 2GB regardless.

I always find your work inspirational, yet totally frustrating. Inspirational because of the amount of work you have put into the spacecraft to give them the appearance of working and workable machines. Frustrating because I can't make even the simplest models in Bryce.I stick to POV-Ray and a simple CAD program. Very best wishes for Chrismas and the coming New Year

Excellent stunning Bryce design work David. The complexity and attention to detail in this is really amazing. Anyone who actually researches nuclear-propulsion can recognize work that respects the physics and thermodynamics involved -- and yours does. Very nicely done.

Excellent work, David. Your spacecraft have always appeared to be very realistic in design, when compared to current and past spacecraft that man has actually built. How close your designs are in feasibility is something that is beyond my comprehension, so I'm not qualified to judge. Your work is always inspirational and impressive. Thanks for sharing with us your excellent artwork and concept designs. I always look forward to your next posting.

I agree with your essay. The design is also interesting as it varies a bit more for the "2001: A Space Odyssey" style ships you have done so spectacularly over the years. Do not yet the realism-focused folks get you down. Follow you heart and mind and keep showing us your wonderful visions for our hoped for future in space.

I fully understand about limitations my friend, i too have hit the absolute limit with bryce, Bryce 4 being the only one i find that can open a 4-5Gb Bryce file with not too much swearing, (admitedly gives you enough time to make a coffee and have a shower when saving collossus files) You have always strived to make better what you make, to give the sense of realism and belief that no one else has done, i for one sit here in awe of your mind and vision and thankyou for giving me the encourgement to move on with my peices. I am one for not feasable but i think its time to try something a little more believable, from us all thankyou for giving us all a taste of your mind. Steve :)
