Hi, My name is Bill and I am updating my homepage to reflect a wonderful event in my life...marriage, September 18, 2010, to my best friend Tara...known to many of you as auntietk here on Renderosity.
We "met" shortly after I joined Renderosity in August 2008. We share a love for photography and indeed all types of art.
We live north of Seattle and enjoy getting to share photographic excursions and information with other Renderositians ( is "Renderositians" even a word? ). LOL
As for me, it seems like I've been taking pictures all my life but I didn't get serious enough to purchase my first Digital Single Lens Reflex (DSLR) camera until May 2008. In May 2009 I upgraded from an Olympus E-510 to an Olympus E-30 with a wide variety of lenses.
My subject areas of interest include absolutely everything but with a frequent return to airplanes, cars, tanks, etc., ...or as Tara says, machines that make lots of noise;-)
If you are curious, I am pictured above in a Grumman Corsair on a taxiway of the Kansas City Downtown Airport. I used to fly and train others to fly airplanes. That will explain my frequent forays into the world of aviation. Last but by no means least, thanks to Pannyhb for introducing me to Renderosity. The moment I saw it I was hooked.
Fine print: Yes, the photo above is a photo manipulation:-)

WOW ! SO close. Looks so fantastic :-)))

Excellent progression of shots, Bill; wonder what the driver was thinking about you and your camera? Happy holidays to you and Tara, and all your loved ones!

No, Bill. This is very fitting. I've associated Christmas gift time with trains. They come with goods, or gifts, if you so will. My first HO train was a Gilbert set, Christmas 1957. A switcher locomotive, two cars, and little red caboose. It ran around the foot of the tree all Christmas - New Years. After that, father made a 3 X 6 train board over his bed. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! :-)

Beautiful shots!!

Excellent sequence, Bill, I can almost feel the wind from the train and hear the wheels clickedy-clicking.

What a good idea to show this progression! That's such an amazing view. How many people can stand on the beach and take pictures of a train passing by just above their heads? You got a nice shot of the wreck in frame four, too. Nice work!

Great series, thank you! @MrsRatbag: drivers do know about our hobby, and they're usually very nice. If you wave at them, they wave back, or even give a short signal with the whistle. I've only met one not-so-nice driver over the years: he switched on the tail lights at the front of the engine, on purpose, thus making the shot worthless.

This is beautiful, I love of course the ones the most with the ocean and the trees, but all great. I wish you a Merry Christmas and the best in the coming year ahead. Have a very Merry Christmas

I would be apprehensive being so close to a passing train, but for a capture like this I would do it.thanks for sharing them

Dang, Bill, you look like you were close enough for that train to part your hair on the other side of your head! Wooosh, indeed! :-D Excellent series of train photos! Hope you and Tara have a wonderful, warm and of course, very MERRY Christmas!!

CLOSE is right, if this stellar collage is any indication, Bill. Love that locomotive. I've got some train shots in my files, but they're not as nice as yours because the cars in my pics have been the targets of graffiti artists, which make them unglamorous. And you can wish us all Happy Holidays on New Year's Day, lol.

Cheers for Christmas, Bill. Great train sequence. I still miss seeing a caboose. The "end of train device" doesn't do it for me.

Great sequence Bill, it's the first time I've seen containers still on their trailers loaded on flatbeds.

a powerful, beautiful montage, with really powerful captures, capturing the mass & terrifying beauty of these beasts, and with real clarity and romantic light, and with the rough & powerful terrain that they're roaring over in clarity too. The last shot is amazing, because we get to see the smaller size of these cars as well as the separation between them. And it looks like you were pretty close! If you were, you have to have nerves of steel to get these shots. Even in a zoom, it's still a pretty overpowering sight. Your love for trains shows here. A beautiful primal capture with lots of formal detail to give it grace.
