anyway there many names fotthe jolly old man .
some call him St Nick or St Nickolas; that was on Dec 5
then there was the Trappers Christmas in lat February; That because in dec. the trappers was too busy for Christmas.
In New orleans people would go to Mass and then Papa Noel would come and leave toys and full the socking of the chridren. . After Mass people would have la Reveillion which is a big feast of all type of food.
then you go to the ls creche... the manger scene. and gifts was exchange on new years day. that the old times.
The German descent cammed him Kris Kringle with a side kick called Black Peter. Black Peter job was to collect the bad children into his sack.
And then there Santa Claus
now i forgot to say about st nickolas on River road . River Road is the road that follow the Mississippe river. he rides a donkey and left goodies in the shoesleft on the porch. Plus along the river they light bon fires for Papa Noel. that stated with the Manist prists at Jefferson college. the height of the bon fires had to be limited because of the levels would not be damage.
well anyway He still a jolly old fat man giveing toys and goodies to good children.
Iknow the bad kids get toys too guess they did something to redeem theyselfs some where we did not see but the jolly old man saw it.

What a nice shot, Jocko...and Merry Christmas to you. I remember Saint Nicholas' celebrations in the Czech Republic, and there, he has something similar to Black Peter, only it's the devil, also accompanied by an angel. According to Czech traditions, three friends usually dress up as the various characters...Saint Nicholas is always played by the guy who doesn't mind wearing a fake beard, the girl gets to be the angel, and the devil is always played by the guy who doesn't mind getting his face dirty and walking around with a huge burlap bag. According to the story, Saint Nicholas goes around to the houses of various families...if the children have been good, the angel blesses them and gives them toys or candy. If the children have been bad, the devil takes them and shoves them in his burlap bag, to carry away to the place where bad children go. Of course now, Czechs celebrate St. Nick's day in a typically Czech fashion. With beer! I like that tradition. I like this picture a lot and I am glad you posted it. You do such great night time photos and this is one of them. I'm gonna check out your video too. Merry Christmas from Chicago.
