I usually don't pictures of the homeless. However, this is one of those shots.
Taken at Golden Gate Park at the Haight Street entrance. I had been hoping to catch a drum circle at Sharon Meadows but caught this image instead.

Some homeless shots are compassionate. They don't point a finger and this is one of those shots. It tells a story and it tells it well.

Like you, I avoid taking pictures of the homeless, and like you, I also understand the power that a photograph can convey, especially as this one does. It's not mawkish voyeurism or anything like that, and it's quite elegant and compassionate. It's a marvelous piece of modern photography.
