Hi, I'm Marilyn. Â I've been posting here on RR for a few years now and thought it was time to update my profile. Â It's been wonderful learning so much from the amazingly talented people here. Â I've had the chance to meet many in person and some have become great and good friends. Â Starting with a Kodak Brownie camera when I was about 7 or 8, moving up to Instamatics, Polaroids, then the Pentax K1000 that really got me on the way, I've been looking at the world thru a lens for a long time. Â Got the bug honestly; my dad was a photographer and gave me the gene!! Â Digital changed the world and I jumped in with both feet. Â You would've gone thru 100's of rolls of film in one day the way we can shoot and delete all day long. Â Progess...it can be awesome sometimes.
At any rate, RR rocks, the talent is over the top and I'm just gonna keep on shooting!!
Thanks for looking and keep those cameras rollin'!!
peace.....marilyn

Some how your title and sun sets made me think of the song " Oh when the sun beats down and burns the tar up on the roof " . I’m sure you will miss this place. Aloha

A combination of phenomenal and spectacular, Marilyn! I'm surprised you were able to stay in Huntington Beach for so long, plus scoot over to Vegas to have some fun. You must have a ton of mail and bills waiting for you when you get back.

I love that I can find your photos by browsing thumbnails in the gallery - I don't have to read titles or member names... I know your work and your style in a heartbeat. Lovely photo.

I agree that your work is distinct and I can always tell by the thumbnails too! THAT is a good thing, that means you have style, a photographic (and a writer's) voice! It's kinda like walking through a museum and instantly spotting a Picasso or a Chagall, a Rockwell, or a Rembrandt--well, if any of those guys had digital cameras and a real affinity for water and oceans and stuff. I can tell you really like where you've been, where you are, because your photos of those places are always really lively, but serene at the same time. This one is extra awesome, yep...I said that word, because of the composition. I love the ocean-to-the-right thing you got going here. The clouds balance that, and then you've got the house on the pier thing going on a really nice vertical. I really love this shot. It has the quality of a painting too; I mean, I know it's a photo, but I get the feeling of brush-strokes or maybe some kind of a wash applied, and that just give this a little bit of an extra oomph that really opens the whole picture up (if that makes any sense!) This is a great piece of work, a really cool way to enjoy the infant days of 2011. Oh, and as Victor would say in his normal, deadpan manner: "You are always making the sad good-bye, because without it, you are not able to say the happy hello tomorrow." Pavl might have something really cool and really smart to say in terms of stuff like that too, but the thing with Pavl is, it usually comes out in that way that makes you laugh, shake your head, then wonder what was in that beer he just drank.

I like this "past the pier" look and how the light hits the edge of the building. Dana.
