Description

This is a shot I took from outside the public garden nearby some days ago. Part of the garden was built on the bastion of the Renaissance fortified wall the Venetians built in 1511 as a permanent feature of Padova just after breaking the siege by Emperor Maximilian I The Penniless' armies. It's a moat-and-bailey type of star fortification, where the river Bacchiglione defends part of the wall. Of course, at that time the bank opposite the wall was part of the 'guasto' the waste land protecting the defense system of the site. Today, this part of the garden is one of the meeting points favored by immigrants from Eastern Europe, who usually dine together alfresco. Coming from places colder than Padova, they weren't afraid of a little snow. The shot was taken from the bridge over the river. Thank you for your kind comments.

I did not know very much that every corner of Padua is responsible for all historical traces than the sixteenth century! Nice picture certainly difficult to take!

Thank you for the nice picture and historical reference. Thanks to the comment from claude19 I was clued in to the alternate name of Padua, which made me think of the neighborhood church. It is St. Anthony of Padua, formerly known in French as St. Antoine de Padue. Not being of that specific faith I never knew where Padua was until now and was interested to learn of the connection. How wonderful to live in such a historical area.
