Description

I'm always fascinated by the ways people occupy space. And wonder why they prefer a place or shy away from it. Why one prefers sitting in the first row at a conference, why one chooses the very last bench in a row of lonely benches? The public garden nearby is a microcosm where every star, planet and satellite has a different orbit, which only rarely intersects the others. The garden isn't terribly large, and it's quite popular, but one can choose to be lonely in it. Thanks for your kind comments.

Wonderful POV and depth. I like to sit in the middle but not next to the trash receptacle. Dana

Great capture of snowy seats! There are many explanations why people chose one seat for the other. A lady always wished to sit in a front seat. The explanation was simple: Her hearing was not so good!...It is not always psychology...;o)

A breath-taking image and an absolute faourite Sandra ... You know, by closer inspection - this would also make a befitting book cover, maybe an interesting thriller - IMO I personally love the long shadows in the snow, that is what really makes the scene and gives it a lot of depth ! BB

I have no idea why, but this image reminds me of a book cover...something I'd expect to see as the dust jacket of some wonderfully complex tale by Milan Kundera, or some such writer. Needless to say, I like that element of it. I think it's the way the image holds the shape of a book...tall and lean. It's moody, too, and I like a good dose of moodiness. I could read this image in many different ways--so much of your stuff works like that: complex...but I get an overall sense of calmness from this, an overall sense of peace and I really like it. The snow, the bare branches, the lone human...it could come across as cold, but this invites a closer examination and some reflection as well. Yeah, that's a good thing. I really DO need to catch up with your gallery (and others) and I'm glad I at least got as far as this winner of an image.

On a nice day I might be like that person, but that looks a little cold for me. Great capture.

Probably depends on a host of factors...I think of the spectrum between extravert and introvert. Where might I sit...probably in the middle:)

I think it has a lot to do with ones mood at the time, and ones character, extrovert or introvert.

Interesting observations about human nature. I find peole endlessly fascinating unless I'm in a bad mood, then they become insufferable. I think it's interesting how we all bounce off of each other in this big world we live in. Anyway, I digress. This is a FANTASTIC shot that has an almost painterly quality to it. Lovely work.

Fascinating image, narrative, and comments. I have been alone and lonely, alone and enjoying the company, or in a crowd and very lonely. I am often least lonely when I am physically alone. Solitude can be a marvelous thing, and one doesn't have to be alone to experience it. Solitude can be best when shared. My sister and I can be in a room together, each off in her own world, yet our solitude of mind is made better by the presence of the other. If I am in a crowd, I will be looking for a corner away from it. I have a friend who is an extrovert. We can go to a crowded event together and as the evening progresses, she blossoms and I wilt. A very little bit of such an event is enough for me. The only time I can remember being energized by a crowd was at the end of "Spamalot", when the entire audience was singing "Always Look on the Bright Side of Life." It was so obvious that everyone had experienced the same joy of Monty Python and there was a connection between everyone there. It's one of the very few times that I have sung loud and strong in a public place (you'll notice I didn't say well.) I don't think being lonely is totally a matter of choice, though if one is susceptible, there are things he can do to alleviate it. Excellent and thought provoking image and narrative. Wonderful POV, and atmosphere. Perhaps the person has a fine sense of drama. A long line of empty (except for the snow) benches with a person in black on the last one does make a fantastic shot. Great eye and capture!

That person on the end bench must be freezing his "$"... I'll sit on a bench or row of chairs when I can exit fast..... Nice capture. Aloha

The colour palette of the photo really betrays how cold it must feel on this afternoon. The long shadows on a bright afternoon is another queue to the eye that this is definitely not kitty weather. And of coarse, the fact that few of these seats have had any snow removed from them.
