Description

I dedicate this image to Bill (Radar_rad-dude), who's writing a story about me and Flavia, Mike (HAPPY BIRTHDAY), and all of you who belong to my generation (the Baby-boom generation). I don't remember who made this version of Leonardo's Mona Lisa (also known as La Gioconda) a la Duchamp. Possibly Mona Lisa is the most popular painting to be re-invented, with American Gothic as second best, and maybe Rembrandt's Lesson of Anatomy as a third. I hadn't seen this Mona Lisa smoking a joint for decades, and found it in a cafeteria in a village, San Martino della Battaglia (Mantova), where Flavia, myself and some friends stopped to eat a sandwich, a beer and a coffee (typical Italian light lunch when travelling). The Mokarabia neon sign is the brand of the coffee beans used there for espressos and capuccinos. The wall is probably a conservative work of an older wall, when the old building was destroyed and the bar-cafeteria was built. This type of decoration using parts of older buildings has been fashionble here during the last 20 years, to save the good-old-countryside-things' flavor, together with old photos. Flavia has used this Mona Lisa for JS's T-shirt in the latest episode of her scifi saga. Thanks for your kind comments.

What an interesting looking cafeteria, one with a sense of humour - love it ! That's definitely a Bob Marley she is consuming ... and a spiffy dedi for a couple of cool guys - no doubt. Many big cheers to both of them and not to forget thanks for the info Sandra, BB

I had not seen Mona Lisa's Joint before - now we know why she wasn't smiling. Love the old wall. Dana

What a marvel of a shot and I love the little details...the Mona Lisa is superb, especially since she looks a bit...um..."mellowed out" and who wouldn't be with a Czech-sized spliff like that! This is such a superb photo and a gorgeous dedication as well. I want to visit that little restaurant now. I suppose I'd better buy a plane ticket first. This is super!

Ottimo lavoro ! Interessante copia della Gioconda , non ci avevo mai pensato ( ho fatto dei falsi fotografici d'autore con Monet, Renoir ,Goya e Botticelli, inserendo i personaggi dei quadri in paesaggi della mia zona ).
