Description

Hello, and welcome to another edition of Jeff's mundane streak. Yes, this time out I'm testing out Capsces' Morphlet for Kids 4, trying to create adolescants out of preschoolers. Also testing out a few lighting and camera tricks to lower render times, yet produce decent results. Carrara's render engine isn't the nicest when it comes to flesh and clothing, and I have to work a bit harder to get more realistic results without deadness or moire patterns. Still not all that successful on either. I must have over 20 renders with different angles and adjusted lighting, plus I replaced one youth whose face morph I totally screwed up. Took much longer than anticipated, without much gain in results. I did learn a few things, and hopefully next time it won't be as arduous a process. Oh, and in post, I went filter crazy, but it does bring out an atmosphere of a hot, stuff, non-air conditioned classroom like the ones when I was that age. Thanks for looking in.

the details are great, as everyone has said. i really love the wood textures. the desks are great overall. the materials look a little harshly shaded, like you're not using gamma correction or some other method to get rid of the 3D app look. i kind of like how the camera distorts the room, because the distortion gives the piece a psychologically unsettling feel. but it could look a little more deliberate. overall, it makes me wonder what the story is. why are there only these four in the classroom? why are they picking on the one boy? what is he going for in the desk? where is the teacher? this seems like a very specific scene depicting a specific event, rather than your average classroom image.

Great render, though they look more pre-adolescent to me. Sixth grade-ish. :)

Cool image. I also like the perspective distortion. Adds to the tension. There's a mystery in that desk. Nice job on the postwork and morphs.

I like the 'mundane' stuff. There's always plenty of great fantasy and action on this site, but the real skill is in taking the everyday event and making it intersting.
