Description

Day light finally came. We had met those 3 people in the back when it was dark and the guy asked if we knew anything about the lava. My friend said I did so I gave them some advice on safety, just dont step on the hot fresh lava. They followed us here and eventually to the ocean where the lava meets the sea. Anyways, the couple closer to me were posing to have their pictures taken. You can tell the guys is feeling the heat at that distance. You can tell, the girl has no problems ... Aloha and thank you for viewing PS...Zoom in to feel the heat

I will not try to ever prove this anecdote, but I once heard that if you fall in lava the right way, it'll actually harden around you "flash frozen" by your much, much lower temperature...but it depends on the species of lava as well...but like I said, I won't try to prove or disprove that...I'll just relay it as the thing that popped through my head when I first opened this shot. And what a shot this is! It has drama, heat, action...okay, Lava action, which is a bit deceptive in its slowness. I love the colors, the dark tones and the heated red/orange. This is really awesome in the most real sense of the word...but geological stuff is nothing if not awesome. This is a fantastic shot!

I never had a problem with the heat of lava. I just love listening to the surface pop and the glass shards tinkle back down. There's something magical about it. Great picture. Mahalo.

The already cooled basaltic blocks look great with that fresh layer oozing through and spilling down in spots. I feel you Errol, maybe a little mention to your co-hikers that you know nothing if asked. After all you did not go to be a tour guide or take on liability for others. Especially 9 times outta 10, they'll follow you round like a lost lamb ;) It does take patience dealing with those that do not belong in such a place. I have acted as guide and even plain out rescued people from wilderness areas. Really there is just one simple rule to follow. If you don't know the terrain or it's dangers, YOU DO NOT BELONG THERE!

I like that you have people in this shot, it gives it scale. I agree with USAnomad, I wondered why they were there if they hadn't a clue. You were drafted to be their angel(not by them but by the powers that be). You are filed with grace~
