Description

Thank you all for stopping by today. I have to admit, I have long been tempted to do something like this rendering. Going back to a Poser project I created three years ago called Balloons!, I re-rendered the original setup applying the techniques which I now use for creating a Poser image. Hey, if Coppola can do it...
Some Technical Details
Essentially, I updated the texturing and lighting used in the scene. I replaced my old method of 'sky lighting', a circle of low level, shadowless bluish infinite lights, with a single diffuse IBL light, using the lagoonShoreandSky.jpg probe that comes with Poser 6 (thanks Gene - 2Loose2Trek). For the 'Sun' light, I switched it to use ray traced shadows (0.1 and 0.6) as opposed to depth maps. Balloons! was first rendered when I was just beginning to play with shader nodes such as Ambient Occulsion (AO). Although, AO works with depth map shadows, it can be made to work to greater effect with ray traced shadows. For most textures, my AO nodes are set to 4 samples, 50in max. distance and 0.1in ray bias - even for skin textures. Note, different versions of Poser have different tolerances for AO settings and I am using Poser 7. Of coarse, if you wish to soften shadows or brighten fabrics, raising the ray bias to 0.5in works well. I also employ a standard and complex set of shaders to enhance how light interacts with character skin. Alas, it would be impossible for me to provide much usable detail within the limits of this forum. Though some of the basics of what I do for skin can be found at the following web page written by PoserHobbit. http://www.physicalc-software.com/tutorials/realskinshader/ And of coarse, I employed the following Render Settings for this redux image: Raytrace bounce: 2 Irradiance caching: 85 Pixel samples: 6 Min. shading rate: 0.20 Post filter size: 2 Post filter type: sinc HDRI optimized output is set. No gamma correction Details such as props, morphs and deformers (magnets) I did not alter. Which is to say, I did not magnetize Vivian's hat to press down her hair and make a more convincing fit.
Freebies
I originally came up with Balloons! as a project that would consist of all freely obtainable props and characters. Thus, there is much honourable mentions to those who provided these free items used here once again. My thanks to all of you. mari_e17 for the Vivian character. Adorana for the Leonlin Hair for Victoria 3. teknology3d for the Balloons and the Bird Fountain. JTrout for the Road Construction Kit and for the Riding Hat for V3. ape50 for the roof textures from Church Bohemia 18 - 19 Century. Maveris for the Shoes 01 for V3. EnglishBob for the Jean Skirt for V3. PoserWorld for the Valencia Jacket for V3. ISOP for the gloves from their Maid Dress for V3. Tyl2000 for the Tree. greetinx for the Shade Tree. DAZ for Victoria 3. Enjoy!

there is indeed a difference... I work with poser since 2003, but have no idea what raytrace light/sdw does or what AO is... will see what I can do with the following info in a render later this week (already busy with the render for the 18th now) Raytrace bounce: 2 Irradiance caching: 85 Pixel samples: 6 Min. shading rate: 0.20 Post filter size: 2 Post filter type: sinc HDRI optimized output is set. No gamma correction
