What a nice scene. I think I spent a bit too much time in dank, moldy castles in central Europe though, because when I see this image I think of the sumptuous beauty of everything, especially those columns and the quality of light, and then I think of women like Elizabeth Bathory--a highly misunderstood historical figure. Known as "the Blood Countess" she was a brilliant woman but also a likely sufferer of severe bipolar disorder and other neurological maladies; yeah, okay, she might also have been off-the-rails bonkers too. It's an odd thing to experience history like that and then to see beauty as well. I like that tension, and I like the way it sometimes shows in artwork like this. It's top-notch artwork, and I love the fabric of her dress and the naturalistic pose and the contrasts between light and darkness and the stone textures and the overall composition. The colors are superb. I see the romance and even feel it, but there's a tension in my mind that also sees the dark history of places like this. For me, that's a good thing, because it provides a balance and makes the romantic element all the more tender. I love it when I can look at an art piece and see something complex like that. THIS has that complexity as well as sheer, shimmering beauty. Well done.
