Description
Book jacket concept for the eponymous novel by Patrick Suskind.
I've had this idea in my head since I first read the book 16 years ago. I've tried various types of mixed media but so far none of them have really done it justice. Every few years I have another go at exorcising the idea, this was what I came up with using C4D. It's pretty close to my original vision, the essences of Grenouille's victims suspended in the perfume like sulky geni's or butterflies captured at their peak but fading slowly, getting duller, fainter.
It's still not quite what I had in mind though.

Your work is quite stylized. I really dig what you've shown us so far. Been using C4D long?

Dan. I've been using C4D for about a year but had Bodypaint for a while before that. I guess my work is quite stylised because I was trained as an illustrator in traditional media - paint and printmaking. Back at art college in the mid 80's I was very influenced by Joseph Cornell and Joseph Beuys - I liked putting things in boxes. I tried to build this image back then but it didn't quite work for me. One day I'll find the right way to express this idea.
