Description

This should be the last of my "Tron-obsession" works, now that I seem to be working it all out of my system. As you probably can guess from this one, I finally saw "Tron Legacy" last week at the local cinema. I can't recommend seeing it on the big screen enough. It looks wonderful! I still vividly remember seeing the original so long ago, and my appreciation for just how ground-breaking it was has only improved over time. Especially after reading "Neuromancer" and watching "Johnny Mnemonic" and "The Matrix". So I've dabbled about with trying to capture the feel of the movies, while not simply re-creating models or scenes. It's turned out to be harder than I'd expected, but a great challenge for me in my on-going quest to tackle a wider range of science fiction and space craft designs. This was primarily done in Bryce 6, including the background "terrain". I created my own custom texture as well as terrains to get the kind of look I wanted, but did a little bit of overlay combining a couple of renders of the ship models to help them stand out against the background. That turned out to be the biggest challenge: How do I show the terrain enough, while not overwhelming the ships? This wasn't a complete success in that regard, but I'm mostly pleased with it. I think I'll keep these models around, though, they were fun to play with. Thanks for taking a look, and comments/critiques/suggestions are definitely encouraged!

Well this pic is really impressive! I haven't seen Tron legacy yet, so the first feeling that came to me when I saw your work was: Wow! A fractal version of the Death Star from Starwars! It turned not to be it, but I really like this pic, for sure! Awesome work here!

HOLLLLLLLLLLYYYYYYYY WOOOOOOOOOOOW!!! Man, I love this! Those ships are just too cool, Mike! And that background!! I think both the ships and background are perfectly balanced, and it does impart a TRON feeling. (I have GOT to go see that..) At first, I thought the BG was an Incendia render.... Now, I'm trying to figure out how you did that in Bryce - I've just started playing with version 7.1 myself, and am amazed at the things that can be done with it. I have a general idea how you did it, but the perfection you've achieved here is way beyond anything I'm managed yet! :-D Fantastic work!
