Description
I am surrounded by trees, most of which were here when I arrived so are very large and well established. 3 enormous Leylandii gave me many logs for the wild garden, used by a beings that crawl and like dark places including, by day at least, my resident newts. Most are beautifully covered in different coloured blossoms during the Spring and the image above, of a teeny specimen of Cryptomeria japonica 'Elegans Aurea' (Japanese cedar) is one of 10, two of which I added a few years ago.
The latter run all along the side of the property, from the wild garden to the side and through to the back garden, where they provide cover for the feeding birds and which they use to great effect when the Sparrow Hawk is around. They also provide the best nesting ever for the blackbirds which they seem to prefer to the special nest boxes I put up for them, but which do very nicely for a robin who darts from one to another! Some feathered folk simply cannot make up their minds! Oh yes and it's a male - just in case anyone dares to say otherwise! ^=^
My personal opinion on him is that he's a bigamist! ^=*
Anyway, after that long and totally irrelevant ramble, the other reason I love these plants is that when it rains and then the sun emerges, the above image is what you get. Only much better than I could ever capture, having a myriad of colours shining to such an extent it appears as though the trees are covered in fairy lights! Because of the way the leaves are formed, tears of rain are often as not what you get. So - here is just one. ^=^
Thank you for the comments, faves and such. It is appreciated in no small measure. Thank you also for taking the time to look. ^=^

FABULOUS! My C.japonica came in an envelope of 10 'dwarf' evergreen for £5 many moons ago, and, after reaching ultimate height, got the chop last year as part of my project to make the pond as sunny as possible! I have several others which have yet to get to that stage.
