Description

Yin/Yang in an Inuit (a.k.a. Eskimo) horror myth. I spent a year in a little native village in Alaska as a child, and heard the story of one of the local myths. Supposedly, a village was struck by a plague that killed every born person. The unborn embryos inside pregnant women who died were still alive; and had to eat there way out of the womb with their abnormally big mouths. Here, I show a pregnant corpse/skeleton with a life inside (shown courtesy of a cut-away of the dress). Yet after eating it's way out of the corpse, that life is believed to roam the frozen tundra in search of prey (and thus causing death). I thought it had a striking and creepy yin/yang symbolism to it (but without the actual yin/yang symbol).

Sweet dreams are made of this . . . . . . . . NOT. :-) Love the story. Sounds like one to tell around the camp fire late at night. Excellently illustrated as well.

I have heard a story very similar of those people. Excellent images to go with the story.
