Description

*Happy is England! I could be content to see no other verdure than its own; to feel no other breezes that are blown through its all tall woods with high romances blent: yet I do sometimes feel a languishment for skies Italians, and an inward groan to sit upon an Alp as on a throne and half forget what world or worldling meant.* John Keats, from "To Kosciusko" -------------------------------------------- Mixed technique, involving pencils, pen, carbon pencils, oil pencils and a bit or watercolour.. all equalized then in Painter for a more organic effect. The original picture is actually bigger, but this is the best scan I could menage to do :) As all know, I have been in England and reading Keats's Selected Poems book I bought there I just needed to create something to explain my love for the nature in English countryside :) I am from Tuscany, and it seems us and English people love the same pattern of country visions: that's why they feel good here, and we feel great there. It must be a similar perceivement of lines and things, I dunno.. all I know is that I love their Country a LOT. :) Oh.. the vision is something actually invented.. the inspiration came from the landing at Stanstead.. the clouds opened and I had a glimpse of the countryside around from some thousands feet... and the impression and the love I felt then was so powerful, that I had a very clear vision when I had to put something on my sketchbook :)

Very beautiful Meli! I love the colors and the composition. The imagery is so real, one almost feels as if they are there experiencing the view. Great work!

Now you have made me homesick - this is wonderful. Its so alive and vibrant - I can smell the grass and trees. (And I think you are spot on with your bit about the English and Tuscany - which I love equally as well as my own backyard). Love this so much. You know I dont normally rate art work but this is an exception.

This is just stunning Meli. A brilliant imaginative composition capturing England to a tee. But the colours are glowing, the light coming in to the tree area is just awesome. An extremely warm painting. You have put your feelings into it.

I am just sitting here enjoying it. The color has just a bit of the ancient(in the reddish and yellowish tones) that disguises an English freshness as an American would have seen it.

hah! I'd expect Keats to be quoted under a painting like this. exceptional tecnhique, as much as I disagree with serene landscapes -boring and purposeless (don't misunderstand me. that's only my opinion). nonetheless, the technique is marvellous as I said above, and one can almost see the time spent on each of your brushstrokes, gallimel. congrats

thanx to those who appreciated my efforts here :) it took a lot for me to being satisfied with it but it seems it was worthy :) Some random replies: To Baalzebub: the only filters I have used are from Painter 6: I sharpened it a minimum (really a minimum) then I used the "Equalize" tool, again at a very low level :) This paint as the next one of the same way is pat of a marriage gift to two friends' couple and currently they are packed for them in their houses. BUT after 16 of September I can certainly scan the not treated version (although they are very similar) which is bigger and has my real sign over it in oil pencils (I had to rewrite a signature as the cut off for the scanning deleted a noticeable part of the landscape, including the signature :) Thanx especially to cneofotistos..Man, being just in awe in front of your art, the fact you appreciated something I created is priceless to me :)

I won't ever be able to be fair on your art Meli: because I adore everything you make. This is such a fantastic work, and the one thing which matches it in my mind is your beauty only.

Finally again I write eh.. ;) Well, as always a beautiful piece of work. And a subject which you do not paint too often either. So very intrigueing. It gives me several different feelings and ideas, depending on when I look at it. One that comes constantly though is the warmness and the peacefulness. The reflections on the tree and bushes, as some others have commented on, really brings memories of my hometown environements during the late nights in the summer. Like now actually. Artistically, from the little I know, you can really see that it is so fulfilled with your love into the subject of the artwork that it transcends the entire piece way high. A 'funny' thing though is that when I said I get different feelings about it during different moments, well one of them is the feeling that in any second you could see some little Hobbit's lurking in the shadows. Tolkien would have been proud of the drawing. That is for sure.

Well Done gallimel. I like the sharper focus in the foreground and the way the horizon blurs away in the distance.

Colori bellissimi... E' come se me li sentissi sulla pelle... (Non so se i colori siano cose percepibili con il tatto, ma l'effetto che mi fanno quello: come se fossero un raggio di sole)
