Description

Some places weren't meant for people. Anything they build rots, or is crushed by falling rocks or covered by weeds. The Devil's Breech in Normandy is one such place. The river ambles calmly enough along the escarpment, before abruptly turning and cutting straight through the hard sandstone. Rocks crack off and fall in, getting washed down till they jam and form pools. The light flows into the steep gorge from the end and the birch and alder cling to the steep banks. Such paths as exist are terribly slippery and frequently demand a scramble over wet rocks. I've had a couple of tries at doing an image of this spot. This time it occurred to me that I could do pools using terrains with the top cut off to form a flat-topped tower, which, with GillB's water mat, fitted rather nicely over the river bottom eco. All the components are from Cornucopia, including the excellent alder, Quad's rocks, the ivy and the Autumn Falls mats. Wanted to use more trees and a more complex atmos, but Vue8 kept crashing and the render time were over 20 hours as it was. I refuse to upgrade to Vue9, simply because there's a crashing bug in 8. I did the haze in PS and I rather suspect that there is something wrong with the perspective, but I'm damned if I can see what it is! Any thoughts on what's wrong with it would be very welcome indeed. I've just been staring at it too long.

Great render & composition, nice painterly look. The pools/ravines are among the best I've seen. Terrains for water is a very overlooked technique. Well done. 5*

Excellent stream and waterfalls. I've found that if Photoshop and Vue are opened at the same time, Vue crashes. I have 4GB of memory and an i7 chip and Vue 9. I read somewhere that Photoshop takes up almost all the free memory that is available. Could be the problem. I think there is a small memory leak in Vue too. Your perspective is correct. But, you have a visual distortion going on. The waterfalls in the center and forground are both angled in the same direction and along with the turn in the gorge, all give an angled feel to the picture. Kind of like when someone takes a picture with the camera slightly tilted. As an experiment, in Photoshop, try turning the picture 1 +/- degree clockwise and see if that helps what you are seeing. Hope this helps. - Bob
