Description

This Mercedes was one of the estimated 1,300 cars at the McDonald's Rock 'n' Roll Classic Car Show at the Pavilion in Scottsdale, Arizona. This free classic show is held every Saturday and usually attracts about 250 to 500 cars and motorcycles. But because there is a concurrent auction held at Barrett-Jackson nearby, the crowd more than doubled. The bulk of the cars on display are classics from the 20s, 30s, 40s, 50s, and 60s and American Muscle Cars, some of them highly modified and souped up. There are literally dozens of Corvettes, Vipers, and Cobras (kit cars with 427 engines), an original '67 Ford GT350 fastback and an original '68 Ford GT350 fastback and a Ford GT. Occasionally there is a classic Rolls Royce or Jaguar. Yesterday there was a rare 1953 Jaguar. Besides this Mercedes (he comes down from Reno, NV) there was a Bugatti 'Veyron', several late model Lamborghini's, late model Ferraris, a Ferrari 'Testarossa', a Lotus 'Evora', Woodies with big motors, two '56 Chevy 'Nomads, a Ford 'Edsel' station wagon, '59 Chevy 'El Camino', several Porsche 356s, an old Mercedes Unimog, some NASCAR cars from days gone by, including one of Richard Petty's and Dan Gurney's, a '65 Ford 'Galaxy with a big block twin overhead cam engine and sevelal T buckets. All the cars sounded fantastic. Barrett-Jackson yesterday alone auctioned off over 40 million dollars worth of cars, and with the big money in town many cars in this show were for sale. The weather was perfect, only 70F, but not a breeze or cloud in the sky. The McDonald's which sponsors this event played oldies ('50s and 60' rock 'n' roll' over loudspeakers and the the restaurant itself is themed with '50s and '60s American Classic Automobiles. Most of the owners of the classics and muscle cars are older, many are veterans. The younger set shows low riders, chopped cars, highly modified Japanese cars or old VW beetles. I was glued to the TV all week watching the auction. It's my favourite thing on TV. I didn't know about the show.. what a special extra bonus that would be for the auction attendees. I would have loved to have been there in person! How special that you could make it :)
