Description
This is a freebie texturing project with scott8539 for the Macross Battroid, the VF-1S Skull 1. scott8539 is responsible for the model, I created the textures—the badging and decals, and the stripes and panel lines, some details in the head. They are meant to be un-aged and pristine. I used fresnel shaders from bagginsbill, but the user will probably have to add their own specular/reflective shaders. Or maybe they can be included as a MAT option. The very old gunpod rifle model is from another package, not included.
There’s probably a node-based way that I don’t know about to get rid of the AO artifacts where displacement is used. Background by Stonemason, of course. Don’t ask me how the Battroids managed to step over those power lines!
Model created by mechmaster, Poserized by spanki. Rendered in Poser 2010 Pro.
Model and textures now available here:

Excellent work. I was going to say that I never gor this freebie to look as sharp as you did. 5++

Textures are absolutely awesome, and they deserve to be seen at full size! Ok, I will not ask you about the power lines.... actually I have two other questions: 1) The small elongated triangle on the upper part of the backpack of the right Battroid is an AO artifact? 2) At first blush, the scale of the Battroids seems a bit exaggerated. If I remember correctly, Valkyries should be around 13 meters (42 feet) tall, while here they seem much more taller... Great job, John! Best compliments!!!

Thanks! 1) Now that I check it, that triangle seems to be an extra overlapping triangle, or some edges that need to be turned. The displacement on the shoulder headlights and the waffle thingy on the back boosters exaggerates/splits the mesh. I think there is a math node solution for that? 2) D'oh! You're right. 12.68m. I just accepted the default size and tossed it in the streets. Should be scaled down to about 89%. Here it's the size of a very tall Zentradi like Britai or Bodolza. Non-Macross fans are saying, "Whut?!" Guess that means I might have to do another render!

very impressive giant robots! actually, i think bagginsbill would like people to add his materials to their meshes rather than use materials that don't work very well. you can always PM him and ask.

excellent job on the textures.i didnt make the model mechmaster did and spanky poserized it.was that rendered in poser?
bagginsbill
Use it! Try a Math:Subtract node to offset the displacement - usually X - .5.

Yay! Thanks bb!
