Description

Chrysler introduced the redesigned Hemi engine in 1964 and made Hemi engined cars dominant in Stock cars (NASCAR) and drag racing (NHRA). In 1965 the new Hemi was banned from NASCAR. At about the same time American race car designer and constructor McKee Engineering had begun construction of a series of mid-engined tube frame sports racers which could be modified to accept the new Hemi. This Hemi-McKee raced from 1965 through 1967 in Cam Am and USRRC races alongside McLarens, Lolas, Chaparrals, Ferraris, and Porsches. The car was then stored for 35 years until it was restored in 2004. The 426ci (7 liter) Plymouth Hemi this car uses is generating 610hp at 6,400rpm. The current owners have it up for sale at $600,000. This picture was taken on 22 January 2011. Thank you for viewing and commenting, Sig...

It was loud when he fired it up to adjust one of the carburetors. Eight un-muffled exhaust pipes can make a real racket!

$600K? Wow. We're thinking about trading my Toyota in on something we can tow, but our price range was a LITTLE lower than that. LOL! I'm glad you posted this image. Now I've got a visual to go with the story! Great capture.

Well, I'd be very surprised if they get half that much for it ... but a nice car non-the-less. I've always had a yen for Can Ams (USRRC cars, too).
