Description

The Seine (Seine, in French) is one of the main rivers of France. The approximate length of the river is 776 km, its sources are in Burgundy, at 470 m above sea level, in Saint-Germain-Source-Seine on the plateau of Langres, and the mouth is in the English Channel to northern France, at Le Havre. The Seine in Paris Paris was born from the Seine, and not forgotten. The basic distinction between the historic districts of the city is being placed on the broader right bank (the right bank) or on the left bank (Rive Gauche), being on the side of the right bank of Paris business, finance and institutions (Louvre, the stock market), while on the Paris Left Bank develops intellectual, cultured, musical, dramatic (the Sorbonne, the Latin Quarter, Montparnasse). In town, the river is about 13 km, its depth varies from 3.5 to 6 meters and its width ranges from 30 to 200 meters. The two sides are joined by as many as 38 bridges (the oldest of which, despite its name, is the Pont Neuf) and 3 bridges. It seems that even today the Seine in Paris to provide more than 50% of drinking water. It is certain that the water consumed in Paris until the nineteenth century was only that of the Seine River, which fed the fountains of the city. The river has always been subject to major floods, although it was dammed in the city. Still remember those of January 1924, 1955, 1982 and 1995. But the flood formidable, still remembered as "the great crue," was that of 1910, lasting 21 to 30 January, during which the Seine reached the height of 9 feet, and forced the Parisians to move the boat up the Champs Elysees. Until the late '60s, the Seine could take a bath (as well as on the Tiber in Rome). The urban growth, industrialization and pollution have gradually made it impossible. Jacques Chirac, as mayor of Paris in 1988 had proposed clean-up operation that would allow it to reappear bathing water from the river by 1994. In 2005, the bathroom is still not done, but in compensation in 2002, the Mairie, between July and August, taking advantage of the physiologic reduction in traffic, stopped traffic on the right bank of the Seine for about 3 km beneath the Hotel de Ville, and equips "Paris Plage", sand, grass, palm trees and so on., so that Paris can at least take sun baths. The initiative is highly appreciated. The Seine has several islands. In the center of the capital lie the 'Ile de la Cité, which was the cradle of the city, and the Ile Saint Louis urbanized later, and now small elegant neighborhood. In its near Catherine de 'Medici wished to make the gardens of the Tuileries. The "Seine", locally called "quais" and immortalized in dozens of paintings and photographic film in 1991 have been declared World Heritage by UNESCO. From the tourism point of view, one of the most famous attractions of the Seine are boat trips, which allow a fascinating exploration of the city and river. If you want to travel on the river, you can find a passage on commercial barges, some of which offer hospitality (Spartan) a fee and allow much longer tours along the river and its canals. The Seine, the poet Jacques Prévert devoted known "Song of the Seine. " The river was also a source of inspiration for many painters, especially the Impressionists. Stunning work. How did you put it in the book? I stayed on the Rive Gauche. Not so romantic. I found the people of Rome much more friendly. Stordimento lavoro. Come l'hai messo nel libro? Sono rimasto sulla Rive Gauche. Non è così romantico. Ho trovato la gente di Roma, molto più amichevole.
