Description
The Great Arch, in Zion National Park, is considered a blind arch, set in Navajo sandstone. A blind arch is an arch of rock still attached to the rock face. You can not walk through this arch. It is about 600 feet (183 meters) wide and about 400 feet (122 meters) high. The best view is from the road on the drive up to the Zion-Mount Carmel Tunnel. This 1.1 mile tunnel connects the west entrance to the east entrance and direct access to Bryce Canyon and Grand Canyon from Zion. The tunnel was built in the 1920s.
