Her journey had been long and painful. She’d been tested and deceived. For her bad luck of being in the wrong place at the wrong time, an expendable asset for Hell to throw away at its leisure, she was cast down. Her service as one of the commanders of the Furies had gone for naught. Her defeat at the hands of Zakarko was enough to see her cast back into the pit. But something in her had changed. Some darkness even Hell could no longer tolerate had infected her. Free will had entered her thoughts, and she would not be cast away or tormented for the machinations of another, for the failed schemes of Asmodeus.

Another had entered her dreams; one who had lorded over the manifold pits and found them wanting. He had finally escaped Hell. Now it was her turn. She was visited by His daughter, and in their negotiations she agreed to serve the first Master, the first Fallen One in exchange for her freedom from Hell. Freedom is what she got. For a time in the northlands, she pretended to be a Dark Winged Folk, but that was not enough. With her power and abilities, she could do so much more than push barbarian pawns around on a game board. She encountered a band of adventurers and pretended to join them as a Winged Folk WarPriestess. When they stumbled upon one of the gates that took them all to Old Calladon, she knew she’d found her destiny.

The true Mistress had come to the place and was looking for those she called “The Nine”. Nessa had no idea that for all the millennia she had served in Hell, she had another destiny. This was it. In defiance of Jehovah, in defiance of even Asmodeus and the lords of Hell, she swore her service to Princess Aura. She could see a day when The Nine would take Hell away from Asmodeus and Mammon and the rest of the petty dukes and lords. Praise Shang and the Gods be damned. She’d see to it personally.
