Description

Last nights New Years Eve meal included some scrumptious stir-fried mixed vegetables with thinly sliced pork. Miss Chen also served up a pot of Chicken and Vegetables stew which we all enjoyed. Life in China is different. Even though we live in the subtropics, it does get cold. Many folks begin to wear jackets once the weather gets down to 70ºF or so. I was able to bear it down to 50º before I began to get cold. It was just after Christmas when I finally broke down and bought thermal underwear by Spandex™. Regardless where they live in China, one thing is a constant, energy is scarce and expensive. Still they will sit around the house bundled up like they live on an iceberg, and open all the windows! There is no thermal windows to be found. As for the insects in the south, it is malaria country here. I am originally from Michigan. Our state bird is the mosquito. We usually enjoy late autumn when the leaves change there has been a frost and the mosquito's are dead with daytime temperatures in the 60's and 70's. They certainly have a different breed of mosquito here, because it is near freezing at night, and the mosquito's are still active!Man! These are some tough bugs!

They make food a work of art, rather than just something to eat.

Lovely looking feast! The mosquitoes sound troublesome. I look forward to the summertime, but forget about the midges, which make the evenings outside hell.

I wonder if those mosquitoes are mutants and their ancestors came by boat from the Texas Gulf Coast. Never met a meaner bunch of mosquitoes than the giant dive bombers from Galveston! :-) The meal looks so good. Fresh and warm. Great shot and good dialog.

Great shot Joe! What is the cooking fuel in your household? Portable gas cylinders, firewood, electricity?
