Une puissante tempête magnétique…
Le plus violent orage magnétique depuis octobre 2008 s'est produit lundi soir dans la magnétosphère terrestre, a annoncé mardi l'Institut de physique Lebedev (FIAN) de Moscou sur le site internet de l'observatoire solaire russe TESIS.
"Nous n'avons pas enregistré de fluctuations de champ magnétique terrestre de niveau Kp=7 (sur 10) depuis 540 jours, le dernier orage magnétique aussi important s'étant produit le 11 octobre 2008", lit-on dans un communiqué de l'Institut.
La tempête de niveau Kp=7 (Kp est un indice géomagnétique utilisé pour mesurer les variations du champ magnétique de la Terre) peut porter préjudice aux systèmes énergétiques globaux, modifier l'orientation des satellites, perturber le fonctionnement des systèmes de navigation par satellite et provoquer des coupures radio.
Toutefois, on ne sait pas encore clairement si l'orage de lundi a entraîné de telles conséquences.
"La tempête a commencé vers 09h00 GMT. L'indice Kp a grimpé de 3 points, de Kp=4 ("instable") à Kp=7 ("tempête forte") en trois heures (...). L'orage a duré neuf heures, de 09h00 à 18h00 GMT", selon le communiqué.
L'orage magnétique a été une surprise pour tous les centres météorologiques du monde. Il s'est produit en période d'activité solaire très calme, indiquent les chercheurs. La faible éruption solaire du 3 février, qui aurait provoqué l'orage, "a été si légère qu'on ne l'a pas porté aux registres des éruptions.
Toutefois, elle a été très longue (plus de sept heures) ce qui n'a pas été pris en compte par les météorologistes", concluent les spécialistes russes.

A powerful magnetic storm…

The magnetic storm was a surprise for all the weather centers of the world.
It s' is produced in period very calm solar activity, indicate the researchers. The weak solar eruption of Feb 1, which would have caused storm, " qu' was so light; one did not carry to the registers of the eruptions.
