Description

Den Haag / The Hague 18th and 19th century houses, were there were almosts no houses before 1700. The large doors remind us of the age of horses That is where horses and wagons were standing. When ships came with cargo.. The horsemen delivered the goods through town. It happened until the 1950's ! The first house on the right has a door on the 2nd floor. That was were hay or cargo was put. There used to be a crane (like you still see a lot in Amsterdam). But that has been removed a long time ago.. OR it is indoors (sometimes they could move it along a "rail"

These houses really are magnificent Chris, and it is nice to learn the rich history behind them. Reminds me of a old house I saw sometime back where they built doorways wide enough to drive a horse drawn carriage inside

Large bodies of water scare me--esp so close to living quarters--Still I would brave it just to see this amazing avenue--it is very lovely--thanks for sharing it with us.

What a lovely view of these houses! I love architecture, and I have always wanted to visit Europe to see the old houses. I remember a pen pal from england who once said, 'We never really refer to anything as old that wasn't built in the 1600 or so. I was amazed as anything here that is 1940's or older is considered vintage.. lol. Great capture!

.. And then, there has never been a tax on doors and windows in the Hague, which was able to make large windows, unlike in France ... Very nice picture and beautiful perspective. THANK YOU.
