Brad Pitt and I share the exact same birthday (month, day, year) outside of that, our stories diverge considerably. Mr. Pitt went on to become an internationally famous superstar, while I have led the much more interesting life of the starving artist. I come from a long line of storytellers (whose gift for gab stretches back through the mists of time to our native Ireland) and professional malcontents who were seemingly born to create something in the arts, be it music, writing, sculpture, painting, or photography. I started writing at age 12 with a screenplay with my cousin Ryan about a planet where everyone looked like Elton John entitled "Don't I Know You?" More screenplays followed, several of which received epic Super-8 production with budgets that sometimes ran up to $10. A few even had sound!  More writing followed: songs, poems, short stories, numerous unfinished novels, etc.. Somewhere in there was an attempt at being a rock star...
Still living at home, at age 22, my father dropped an elderly Nikromatt 35-mm film camera into my lap, in the hopes that I would "make a go of it" as a photojournalist. That didn't happen, but I did develop an abiding love of photography that along with writing and archival work have been among the chief passions of my life. When it comes to my photography, I try to be as creative as possible while at the same time striving for a documentary/archival quality. The only set rules I adhere to, when it comes to making pictures are: 1.) Try not to make the picture blurry, and 2.) Don't drop the camera.

Love the contrails! There must be a pretty busy airport nearby! (Ya THINK??) :D I love the juxtaposition of the idea of the jet set against people who are obviously just going about their daily lives, not worrying one whit about people in the air. Really fine image!

Motion in so many ways caught in this image, awesome POV and capture!

You've captured that wonderful, strange essence of Chicago--a city filled with motion: people going about their daily lives with very few concerns outside of whatever comprises daily life. You've got motion implied by the el tracks on crumbling, decaying concrete supports with rusty steel skeletons...you've got jet contrails heading in nearly perpendicular directions to the el tracks...you've got people standing and waiting to move, while others move. That's Chicago...constant Brownian Motion: tea molecules beating themselves to death against the edges of a teacup, and you caught this shot right from the middle of it. I like this immensely. The colors are nice and dirty (just like Chicago--and to think, non-native Chicagoans judge the city to be a clean one...which just leads me to think that standards of cleanliness are not universal...or maybe they just see the parts Da Mayer polished with bribe money.) At any rate, you've captured the essence of this city: and I love it. This is one of my favorites, and those jet contrails are the icing on the cake here.

The old building lights and crumbling textures really look cool in this shot! A lot to see and enjoy in this image!

After agreeing with Tara and Chip above, my eye is drawn to the old rotating barber pole. I haven't seen one of those for years. Another jewel from your intriguing city. Fine photo Corey.
