Description

Two Atlantic salmons from a Canadian pool to study their habits can be an apt image to illustrate the last sign of the Zodiac, Pisces. Pisces is the twelfth astrological sign in the Zodiac, which started from the Pisces constellation. In astrology, Pisces is considered a 'feminine', negative (introvert) sign. It is also considered a water sign and one of the four mutable signs. Mutable signs have a longing for movement and are extremely restless. Pisces is the most watery sign. It is constantly trying to adapt itself to its ever-changing feelings and to the moods and whims of others. Pisces has been traditionally ruled by the planet Jupiter, but since its discovery, Neptune has been considered a modern ruler of this sign. According to the Greco-Roman myth, one of the sons of Gaia and Tartaros, Typhon, decided to overthrow Zeus. He had hundred dragon-heads sprouting out in the place of his fingers. One day, Typhon happened to see Aphrodite (Venus), and her son Eros(Cupid) on the banks of a river. To escape from his clutches Aphrodite and Eros turned into a fish and swam into the depths of the river. They had tied their tails together so they would not be separated. In the river, they were saved by other fishes and were later hung in the sky along with the other celestial objects in the northern skies. In the olden days, Pisces constellation was known to the Persians as Mahlik and the Turks as Balik. The Babylonians called them as Nunu. A similar version of the story is told in Syrian mythology, where two fish were the ones who rescued Ashtarte (Aphrodite) and Eros. The Dark Warrior or the Northern Emperor is the name used in the Chinese astrology and Chinese horoscope for the Pisces constellation. Pisceans tend to withdraw into a dream world where their qualities can bring mental satisfaction and sometimes, fame and financial reward for they are extremely gifted artistically. They are also versatile and intuitive, have quick understanding, observe and listen well, and are receptive to new ideas and atmospheres. All these factors can combine to produce remarkable creativity in literature, music and art. They may count among their gifts mediumistic qualities which can give them a feeling their best work comes from outside themselves. Even when they cannot express themselves creatively they have a greater than average instinct for, and love of, beauty in art and nature, a catlike appreciation of luxury and pleasure, and a yearning for new sensations and travel to remote, exotic places. Thank you for your kind comments.

Almost abstract...we have a salmon run nearby around a dam...making note to myself...get pictures the next time they migrate upstream:) We get Sockeye in June and July and Chinook and Coho in September and October. Now, if I can just remember this...:)

I love what you did with this photo. As always, the colors are intriguing and rich, quite sensual; it's as if I can actually reach out and touch the image and feel something other than my laptop screen. This is really great. Perfectly presented and the subject of your text is fascinating as well. This is super!
