Description

Something different, a painting from an old family vacation photo. As I remember, it was somewhere between LA and Anaheim (Disneyland) in California. I'm the child with the huge 70's collar, around me are my two cousins and their mother's friend. Though it's been unfinished for a while, it is meant to be pretty loose. The biggest thing I would do to finish it would be to put more "holes" in the shadow of the tree to break up that big shadow. "Rendered" in acrylic and oil.

I would not be able to paint something not even to saving my life! And I feel a genuine but positive envy for real artists who are able to use brushes and pencils, not just computers. Best compliments! To me, it seems not just finished, but also very, very beautiful! Bravo!

wow. the lack of views and comments on this makes me think i need to find a new art site to frequent. this is one of the best works i've seen on Rendo, imho. great impressionistic technique paired with almost Fauvist colors. good anatomy, good drape on the clothes, good composition, and good balance of light and dark. the only things i'd suggest working on are making it clearer what the girl on the right is eating and what's going on with the legs of the woman at the knee of the leg facing us (i can't tell whether the pants are really wide and loose or why there are wrinkles there). my guess is that these were as ambiguous in the photo, and i think that they could benefit from a more artistic approach (showing what works for the image instead of what's there). ordinarily, straying from reality makes the work weaker, but you've already got an amazingly strong piece. kudos!

I assume my cousin is eating candy, because I seem to remember the market having some tasty candy. The woman is wearing wide bell-bottoms that rumpled at the back of her knee. As for the lack of views: Meh. I never was here for the popularity!
